South Thurston Fire and EMS District 4, nestled in the picturesque Southwest corner of Thurston County, extends its protective reach across 74 square miles. Our diverse response area encompasses both the tranquility of rural landscapes and the bustling city life of Tenino, one of the oldest towns in the region, founded in 1906 and spanning about 4 square miles.
Within this dynamic setting, our dedicated bargaining unit, consisting of 8 career union members, stands as the frontline guardians for a community that ranges from 9 to over 15 thousand citizens. Station 41 serves as our operational hub, responding to an impressive 1800 to 2100 calls annually, showcasing our unwavering commitment to swift and effective emergency response.
Beyond our role as first responders, our members harbor deep connections to the community, reflecting the rich history and unique character of Tenino. Known for its wooden money, railroads, and sandstone carving, Tenino holds a special place in the hearts of our team members, who genuinely care about the well-being of its residents.
Embodying a spirit of community service, our bargaining unit actively engages in initiatives that contribute to the betterment of our hometown. Throughout the fall, we spearhead the “Coat for Kids” campaign, delivering 25-50 winter jackets to the Tenino Schools and ensuring that the younger members of our community stay warm during the colder months. As the holiday season approaches, Brother Neumeier and his wife Bobbi Jo orchestrate a heartwarming food drive, channeling both food and monetary donations to a local food bank in Tenino.
These community-driven events exemplify our commitment to giving back and fostering a sense of joy and support within both our ranks and the broader community. South Thurston Fire and EMS District 4 remains dedicated to safeguarding lives, building community connections, and contributing to the well-being of Tenino and its residents.
